In 1996, Acea began teaching a plyometric-jumping course to high school athletes in preparation for their particular sports season. This class
instantly became a success, as participants were drawn to the high intensity and creativity of this new group exercise class. After only a couple of months, this athletic based
activity began to draw not only high school students, but also other fitness enthusiasts who wanted a great workout.
After three or so months, most students were back in school, but this plyometric jumping workout continued with the majority of the participants being men and women 20-40 years old.
But the numbers started to drop, so Acea approached a few women who had been dedicated participants since day one. Simply stated they had noticed that their legs were growing and they
weren't able to fit into their pants comfortably. The same reasoning was received from 4-5 other participants who he approached. This was obviously a problem, Acea himself enjoyed teaching
this class and participants stated that they were having a great time and actually started to enjoy exercising again because it was fun! But if the class was going to continue the numbers
had to increase.
As the months went on, Acea began to change the design of the class. There was less explosion-jumping movements, more agilities were added following the jumping movements and he
reduced the amount of rest in between each exercise. The theory behind this method was that if you don't allow the muscles adequate rest and recovery, they aren't able to grow and bulk as much...just shape
and develop. It took some convincing, but Acea was able to talk some of his original devoted exercisers back into class and Plyo PowerŪ was born. Now, over the last
decade Acea has shaped Plyo PowerŪ into one of the best athletic, cardiovascular, leg workouts. Although he has been using the name Plyo PowerŪ since 1998 it wasn't until August of 2002 that he felt that
Plyo PowerŪ was ready to be trademarked.
